Pride in our Parish
18th April 2009
North Hill Parish takes part in
Clean Cornwall Week
Members and partners of the North Hill Community Litter Project
joined forces for a ‘Spring Clean our Parish’ day on 18th
April. With
our community focus on the village halls we spruced up and
aimed to encourage pride in our parish.
See
how partners in a community work together >Clean Cornwall Week
18th to 26th April 2009 and in September 2009
The purpose of
the Clean Cornwall is to establish a programme
of litter picking and related activity across Cornwall to:
Increase
awareness and understanding of the impact of litter
Recognise
the achievements of existing
anti litter efforts
Encourage
local ownership of the problem by individual communities
Promote a
sense of local pride and celebrate Cornwall's special
environment
So please help by getting your community on board for the next
Clean Cornwall Week!

How can we stop the littering?
Simply picking up litter is not enough. We
all have to find ways to prevent the littering in the first
place. Read about how we are doing this here in North Hill
parish - and please tell us what you are doing to help.

Why is recycling important?
Each household produces about one tonne of rubbish
annually. Each year in the UK households throw away over 29.1
million tonnes of waste, that's the same weight as 4.85 million
male African Elephants!

This limerick was written by a volunteer litter
picker - sadly it didn't win a prize! |

North Hill
boasts a group of strange pickers
who collect with their tools all the litter.
Their aim is to stop
the rot that you drop
wearing yellow disguise and red knickers!

Litter & Wildlife
Litter in the countryside can be quickly hidden
in the vegetation, particularly in roadside hedgerows and long
grass. But litter can cause serious problems for wildlife and
the natural environment.
On our wildlife page you will find out about these hidden
dangers and links to other websites.

What people say
Floella Benjamin, OBE (actress,
presenter, writer and more! )
"When I see graffiti and rubbish I get upset. I want people to
realize it's an offence to the human eye and our beautiful
surroundings to daub graffiti an throw rubbish. I feel really
strongly that it's my human right not to have that done to me:
it's a moral and physical offence to me wellbeing."
