Prevention

This is the key!

”Clean roads and public spaces will make it less likely for littering to happen.”
“We have to get the anti-littering message across.”
North Hill parish litter picking volunteers

How can littering be prevented?

We hope that everyone in the community will support the project and do whatever they can to prevent littering.

We continue to raise awareness and promote the anti-littering message through:

Signs
After our litter picks we put out the roadside signs and leave these in place for 3 days, to inform people that picking has taken place. This also serves as an important  reminder that the project needs support and that litter is not acceptable!

Parish News
It is important to k
eep the community informed and
involved in the Litter Free Project
.
We report regularly in the parish newsletter to explain
our activities, results and progress.

Partners
Our community partners support our aims. They are given a certificate and we ask that they display this to help promote the anti-litter message more widely.

Recycling
The percentage of rubbish in an average household bin that can be
recycled is 60%. The energy saved by recycling 1 aluminium drinks can is enough to run a television for three hours!
Much of the litter that we pick up is recyclable - drinks cans and plastic bottles - so it is important that we all recycle as much as possible and help reduce litter at the same time!

Going forwards from here

We plan to continue with:

Maintenance picks around the parish where needed.

Autumn maintenance picks before the main period for hedgerow trimming - when litter gets shredded!

Record results and monitor progress.

Roadside signs after litter picking to keep the anti-litter message alive.

Reports for the parish newsletter to promote a litter free local environment.

Increase the number of partners in the community.

Liaise with partners, to listen to their comments and suggestions and work together whenever possible.
