Biography

Carol studied at Exeter College of Art & Design before going on to take a degree in Design & Technology(QTS) at St John’s College, York. She then taught for 8 years in Sheffield.  While taking a family break she became involved with ‘Gateway Through the Arts’ funded by Leader +.  It led on to Carol exploring felting techniques to create abstracts and feltscapes, predominantly of local landscapes.

Carol then joined forces with local hand spinner & natural dyer, Rosie Rumble to set up Edale Woolworks, which aims to provide fairly-traded, prepared local fleece for spinners and felters.  In conjunction with this, they have led workshops to promote the use of wool and encourage local people to enter The Edale Wool Challenge.

In May 2008, Carol opened her studio to the public as part of Derbyshire Open Arts. She was then invited to set up a solo exhibition at The Moorland Centre in Edale in July ‘08.

In August ‘09 Carol became one of the first members of New Mills Original, a new venture to help people establish themselves as creative professionals and bring arts, crafts and other original work to a wider audience at affordable prices. This is a Community Interest Group, where any surplus is re-invested.

On 13th October 2010 - During the first National Wool Week, Carol was employed by The National Trust to deliver a feltmaking workshop for a group of teenagers from Hillsborough College.
National Wool Week was part of the Campaign for Wool, whose patron is HRH Prince of Wales, which started in January. The aim is to promote the qualities of wool, such versatility & sustainability, and help support sheep farming because of poor wool prices.
