Feltmaking is an ancient process, dating back thousands of years. In Scandinavia felt is believed to have been around since the Iron Age.
When water and friction are applied to the wool, the scales of the fibres open up and tangle together to create a fabric.
Felt is hard wearing, warm and versatile. It can be used to make carpets, yurts, footwear, hats, wall-hangings and much more.
All kinds of animal wool fibres are used in the process. Carol mainly uses White-faced Woodland fleece from the village of Edale in the Hope Valley.
