TAOST is a Ugandan NGO that was started in 2003 after realizing that a large number of orphans had no one to take care of them. Moreover, many widows who had lost their husbands to HIV/AIDS were not able to support their families. TAOST therefore was founded in order to support families affected by HIV/AIDS so as to positively transform them in sustainable ways through capacity building and advocacy.

After careful consideration of the primary causes for the spread of HIV/AIDS - poverty, unhealthy cultural practices, and gender imbalance - TAOST has come up with an integrated approach to solving this grave problem.

TAOST therefore adds its contribution to the existing efforts to lessen the effects and blow of HIV/AIDS through various activities that include among others entrepreneurial skills development, education for the orphans, and home-based care for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Mercy lost her husband, and had no hope of her three children ever getting an education. With the support of TAOST these children are now in school, and Mercy is one of the beneficiaries of the TAOST Seed Fund. With it she started a food business which has helped provide additional income for her family.
