Formed soon after the first Great North Run, and affiliated to the then AAA in December 1983, we are based in the UK near Newcastle, in south-east Northumberland at Blyth Sports Centre. Click here for maps. Our members (approximately 130) are primarily involved with Road Running at all distances up to full Marathons, although some members do take part in the occasional fell or track race. We also send teams to various Cross-country events.  We meet at the Sports Centre on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 18:45, and on Sunday mornings at 9:00am for the obligatory long run. Our members cover a wide range of abilities; some are at "the sharp end" of races while others run just for fun or simply to keep fit. Structured training is offered for those who want it, and company is offered to all - nobody runs on their own.

Membership of Blyth Running Club is £16.00 per year, including changing room and shower hire. Race trips are organised to the larger events, the main two being the London Marathon and the Great North Run. In previous years we have very well supported long weekend breaks away; including one to Ireland, for the Dublin Marathon.

For those wanting some competition, we run a "Grand Prix" league from March to November, this has four divisions, with promotion and relegation taking place at the end of the season. This competition has the effect of giving people a focus to aim their efforts towards, and is keenly contested right down to the last division. Prizes are awarded to the winners at one of our numerous social functions held during the year.

Apart from the Grand Prix, other events organised by the club include our main event of the calender - the Blyth Valley 10k, starting and finishing at the Quayside at Blyth; the Blyth Links 10k, held in September along  the "Links" road between Blyth and Seaton Sluice; the Club Handicap 8 mile race over almost the same course, and the Blyth Sands Race, on the beach at Blyth, held in December. We also have several internal Club events including a 6 race handicap series, held during the winter, run over a distance of 2.5 miles, and a team handicap race, held over 3 x 2.5 miles.

For more information contact us, by email at  enquiries@blythrunningclub.org.uk or ring Blyth Sports Centre on (01670) 352943 or 352581. If you can run a few miles, just turn up on a Monday or Wednesday night at around 6:30, or a Sunday morning at around 8:45.
