asking for Sarah by name. Only Andy’s cunning allows
them time to escape. But as the net grows even wider, how long will they stay out of the clutches of the Military? Meanwhile, what of Pete…? A synopsis of my first novel:Only Twelve DaysA Tender Romance.Sally Hughes is twenty-one and for most of her life she has been dominated by her overprotective parents and two older brothers. Her ambition was to be a nursery nurse; however until recently, her parent’s had insisted that she worked in the offices of the family business. Finally getting her own way, she moves back to where she was born and rekindles her friendship with her old friend Josephine, who prefers to be called Jo. However, Jo has become a strong willed feminist and she, too, tends to dominate Sally. Bill Roberts, on the other hand is a 28 year-old widower with a four-year-old son, Joey. Throughout his childhood he was shy and withdrawn, preferring to spend time reading textbooks rather than playing with the other children. Having never outgrown his shyness, he is easily embarrassed, especially in the company of young women. Leaving university with a 1st class honours degree in Mathematics; Bill was appointed head of the finance department in a large international company and is highly respected by the directors. The amount of work he has undertaken since his wife’s death has been of great concern to his parents and his only true friend, Colin. The story begins when Sally is asked to stand in at the nursery when Jane, an old friend, suddenly feels unwell. Bill arrives late to collect his son, but Sally’s anger melts when she finds she is attracted to him. Though usually shy, Bill finds himself comfortable Sally’s company. However, convincing himself that an attractive young woman won’t be interested in a widower with a son, he puts her out of his mind. But when he meets her at the nursery the following day his earlier resolutions are forgotten. At the office, Colin notices something is distracting Bill and questions him. Bill explains about Sally and, delighted his friend is thinking about women again, Colin persuades him to ask her out. Bill is just about to ask Sally to dinner, when she receives a phone call from Jo. Believing it is her boyfriend; Bill hurries Joey out of the nursery. Only through Joey telling his grandmother that Miss Hughes had a friend with a boy’s name, does Bill realise the truth. Asking her out for dinner, Bill is delighted when Sally accepts. As Joey is spending a few days with his grandmother, Bill and Sally enjoy some time together. However everything does not run as smoothly as they might have liked. Though all works out well in the end, there are lots of traumas for the couple during the twelve days preceding Christmas.
