St Andrew's House
One of our members is an elected governor of St Andrew's House, the free
churches' residential home in the adjacent Earlsdon district of Coventry.
Other people are heavily involved with the home that we support it in
many ways, for example by running fundraising events, or by leading acts
of worship there. The home provides accommodation for up to 28 elderly
residents and gives employment to 30 staff.
Luncheon Club
We are proud of our church Luncheon Club (established in 1984), which
meets weekly on Thursdays and has
a steady membership of some forty senior citizens - some church members,
some not, but all of whom enjoy a two course meal, cooked and served by
a dedicated group of our members.
We host the local Age Concern fortnightly meetings, and bi-monthly Styvechale
Towns Women's Guild meetings.
Toddlers
Looking to the younger end of the age scale, we run a Toddlers group that
now has reached a point where we have a waiting list. On average we have
24 carers, drawn from the church and from the community, and 35 children
per week. Membership is open to anyone in the community. Similarly, staffed
by 6 people, we run an open preschool group for 33 children. So popular
is it, that we currently have a waiting list here too.
Basketball team
Inspired by the profession of Christian faith by members of the Coventry
basketball team "The Crusaders", we run a basketball club for
local children. There are two sessions, one each for children of primary
and secondary school age, held on alternate Sunday afternoons. Each session
ends with a prayer for others. The kids love it, as do the adult helpers!
Holiday Club
Holiday Club is held annually for a week during the school summer holidays,
and provides an opportunity for some 80 local children of junior school
age to explore further the love of Jesus through videos, games, craft
work, dance, drama and fellowship. The leaders are drawn from our church
and the local community.
Similarly, for secondary school children, Youth Week
provides an opportunity for local children to share time together in a
loving Christian environment.
Uniformed Youth
Another aspect of our church life that relates very closely to the community
is the large amount of Uniformed Youth work that we undertake. More than
200 young people come onto our premises each week to take part in Guiding
and Scouting activities.
These are open units with leaders drawn from the community as well as
from our church.
We are of course, indebted hugely to all those who give up their time
to organise and run these groups.
