Throughout the year we support the work of Christian Aid through fund raising events and the like. Commitment for Life forms an essential element of our effort, with focus being put on help for Silveira House in Zimbabwe. During Christian Aid Week, we liase with other churches in south Coventry and collect house to house in the streets around our church. Our Church Mission Committee has an educational role. Once a year we hold an event when speakers bring news of the work of their organisations. Most recently, we heard about the work of Jo Homan's Boys Town in India. Locally we have heard about the Emmaus Community, and the Cyrenians. Coventry City Mission does great work in ministering in the Lord's name to a deprived area of our city. We keep abreast of their work through an elected representative from our church who joins with other representatives regularly to hear the latest news and bring back to us any specific appeals for help and support. Every month, we identify a "Special Cause" to support, where members of the congregation are invited to give financial backing through retiring collections. These "Causes" may be local, national or international. We hope to build on the modest contribution we have made to the mission
work of South Coventry Churches, the District
and Synod, and to the URC nationally. |
