Worship forms a fundamental part of our spiritual life - it underpins our efforts to "share God's love so that all may know Jesus." Typically for a morning service there will be 130 or more people in the congregation, of which perhaps 40 are young people who will leave part way through for their own departments which range from nursery, through juniors and seniors to young peoples' fellowship (YPF). Most weeks morning and evening worship (at 10.30am and 6.30pm, respectively) is held with communion celebrated once a month in both the morning and evening, and also on selected special occasions. Parade services take place five times a year and are 'standing room only' occasions. The form of these events by their very nature is different from normal Sunday services, with children taking a leading role, and once a year, either the guides or the scouts leading the service. Music plays an important part in our worship. We have a band of young musicians who play an increasingly significant role, and we give them, and other groups of young instrumentalists, encouragement to take a regular part in our worship. The acoustics of the building are excellent, making it a preferred venue for musical groups from around the district, including Blue Coat School, the City of Coventry Children's Choir and a Coventry welsh male voice choir. In a spirit of fellowship, the congregation is encouraged to remain in the sanctuary after morning worship, when members and friends form a rota to provide tea and coffee. A range of bible study and prayer groups provide further spiritual input for our members. We also have a varied and full catalogue of regular social activities, which help develop and foster fellowship amongst those who take part. We usually take a party of just under 40 to Spring
Harvest every year, and some members and friends take an annual weekend
break together at Weston-super-Mare. We organise a special "away day"
for Elders and other interested people once a year. |
