What's New?/The Latest Paintings to be shown by Edward McNaught-Davis

Abstract art is brought to you here with a new slant. The difference of oil and acrylic paintings is difficult to evaluate because Edward McNaught-Davis is skilled at making acrylic paints look like oil paints in a finished painting. Similarly Edward is able to make acrylics look like watercolours too. Working closely with nature, Edward McNaught-Davis has manipulated these paintings to reflect traditional scenes with an abstract art twist to invoke another way of looking at them. Colours of the light spectrum have either been reversed or accentuated to produce a new balanced difference. The selection of diversified paintings shown below involve a variety of techniques that Edward McNaught-Davis enjoys producing. Many people think that Edward’s work belongs to the hands of many separate artists but all the fine art paintings (and cartoons) shown on this web site were painted by Edward McNaught-Davis. He likes to use a variety of styles and colour mixes to keep the work fresh and spontaneous. Other paintings by Edward McNaught-Davis are shown on landscapes, seascapes, woodlands, rivers and streams, waterfalls and sunsets. If you are interested in reading more about Edward and his art work then please see About the Artist. Similarly, if you would like to commission Edward to paint your favourite scene then details are given under commissions or you could contact him directly by email to discuss your requirements. The Site Map shows all other areas of this web site on one page for your convenience. Not all of Edward’s paintings are classed as abstract art as you will see if you follow the links but you might find it difficult to differentiate between acrylic and oil paintings although all are clearly labeled as such.

About this Painting

Inverted Lights” is an  abstract painting of Llanilar in Mid Wales which represents a transposition of colour by considering light reversal similar to a photograph negative.

Although the painting could be misconstrued as a snow scene, the colours are those shown on a photo negative with some artistic manipulation.

At the time of painting Edward experienced much spiritual and psychic interference as many hidden faces of animals and people began to appear which he did not consciously put there. You can see either the abstract face of an ape or even an early man on the left of the picture.

About this Painting

Bluebell Walk at Llanilar” has a slight abstract art appeal and  is situated in-land but close to Aberystwyth on the West Wales coast.

Although it is off the beaten track it is frequented by tourists and by local people as there is much beauty to experience.  This abstract painting was completed in stages as each watercolour layer needed to be crisp dry before the next pigment layer was applied.

About this Painting

Ice Blue Mountains” is an abstract  painting based purely on imagination and represents a moonlit night of a fictitious mountainous region. Many layers of thin acrylic paint were applied to achieve its luminosity. Only blue and white paint were used. Long handled brushes were used by holding the brush right at its other end which added to the dexterity of the individual strokes and afforded more control.

About this Painting

Totem Woods” is based on a true composition at Llanarth in West Wales. This spiritual and psychic abstract  painting has a Red Indian influence as demonstrated by the strange “Totem Pole” designs on the tree barks. The intention was to produce an overall effect of abstract art but working closely with nature and blending the two definitions to complement each other. This abstract art seems to work well, don’t you think?
