This website provides general information about Emmaus and a lot more about Emmaus Oxford, on the verge of opening as an Emmaus Community, providing accommodation and full time work to formerly homeless people. If you or someone you know might be interested in becoming a Companion (as Emmaus residents are known), please visit our contact us page.
Emmaus Oxford is part of Emmaus International - a charitable movement that provides a unique alternative to conventional services for homeless people. The essence of Emmaus is the creation of self supporting communities that provide accommodation along with work in a recycling business - the collection, renovation and reselling of furniture and household goods - thereby giving homeless people the opportunity to recover their dignity and self-respect. Emmaus Oxford's community building, in Temple cowley, is now complete and undergoing final stages of preparation before opening its doors to our first Companions - in mid-March. See our news page for more. This 'postcard' (right) was taken during the Christmas holidays. |

Things had changed a lot since April 2008, when this digger was snapped, busy at the task of site preparation! We are still working to raise funds to fit out the residential building, to equip and develop our furniture store and run the whole project during the early years as it moves towards financial independence. Any help you can give us towards this will be gratefully received! |
