How to find us..
Please note that we are in Kirkland in Ennerdale and not the one near Kendal. N.B. if you are doing the Coast to Coast Walk from St.Bees and you arrive in Ennerdale Bridge, Kirkland is 1.25miles up the hill - you can either walk or, if we are available, we can even pick you up by car from the Shepherd's Arms in Ennerdale Bridge if you let us know.

We do not make a charge for picking you up from Ennerdale Bridge, however, if you would like to make a small donation in lieu of a "fare" then that would be gratefully accepted. All proceeds go to the Muscular Dystophy Campaign. Please look for this collection box.

We are at OS Grid ref. NY 072178 (click here to go to www.streetmap.co.uk)

By Road..

From Penrith (situated on the M6 motorway): Take the A66 past Keswick to the Cockermouth roundabout (the Sheep and Wool Centre) and turn left onto the A5086. After 9 miles take a left turn signposted to Kirkland. Once at the village crossroads, go straight on (towards Ennerdale Bridge). We are the last house on the left in Kirkland. Click here to be taken to the National journey planner website - Transport Direct.
By Bus... Either take the National Express direct service to Whitehaven or use a bus or train to get to Penrith and take the Stagecoach X4/X5 service to Cockermouth. Once there, change (often only a 2 minute gap) to a Reays local 219 service (Cleator Moor) which stops in Kirkland. You can find Stagecoach's timetables on the Internet but Reay's timetables are NOT ADVERTISED. Therefore, please click here to see the latest 217 timetable information - in a jpg file (90kb). (Only in July and August you can take the free Rambler service from Workington on the scenic route via Cockermouth and Buttermere to Ennerdale Bridge).

By Rail...

From the south of England or from Scotland: Take the West Coast main line to Carlisle or Penrith (http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/default.aspx). Note: tickets bought via the internet more than 14 days in advance are heavily discounted. During the day there is a bus service from outside Penrith railway station to Workington via Cockermouth while both trains and buses are available from Carlisle to Workington and Whitehaven (Arriva Northern and First Northwestern). We are nine miles from Cockermouth, Whitehaven and Workington. Alternatively, try the coastal railway from Barrow-in-Furness - possibly a better route from Manchester depending on time and the number of changes.

From Newcastle and the North-East: Arriva Northern trains run from Newcastle to Carlisle. Once in Carlisle, you can take the Cumbrian coastal railway to Whitehaven.

By Air..
