Personal Interests

Travel
After a life at sea, sometimes accompanied by Jenny, the old travel bug is still strong! When we can afford it,we take holidays abroad. So far we have managed two fly drive trips to California, a tour of Italy, a Nile cruise,a tour of India, Nepal and Thailand and a great three weeks in Bali and Lombok, swimming, snorkelling and enjoying the countryside and the sea. We have also enjoyed an Indian Ocean cruise on Minerva II and a cruise out to Hong Kong on Oriana. If we can afford it, our next trip perhaps, will be to the Andes or up the Amazon, but that depends on the dreaded savings!!

Gardening
This is a time consuming hobby and a constant battle against the elements, particulary this summer (2007)! Cornwall is mild but windy! Still, the flowers and vegetables still manage to survive. The greenhouse keeps me occupied on wet days!

Computing and the Web
I became interested in computing during my later days at sea, when e - mail became possible using Inmarsat. In those days (mid 1980's) we had a monochrome twin floppy machine only, but still we managed. I have now upgraded to an Athlon 1ghz with 60gb and 10gb hard drives, DVD and rewrite drives, DV500 video capture card and twin output video card all configured for video editing. This is networked to a 2.8ghz laptop with 100gb hard drive etc.My old P166 has been replaced with a Dell 1.8gHz computer for Amateur radio digital communication. A nice new iMac has also joined the family!

Video Photography
I have now mastered the intricacies of computer aided video editing, using the Pinnacle DV500 card and Adobe Premier software and have completed a number of travel & holiday movies with which to bore everyone!

Amateur Radio
After 30 odd years as a professional wireless operator, I've finally gotten around to obtaining an Amateur licence! My callsign is M0CNZ. The radio shack is well established now with a Kenwood 100w HF transceiver, a Kenwood 50w VHF/UHF transceiver, a JRC communications receiver and periferal devices together with a 1.8gHz Dell computer for digital communications. The big problem, however, is that my garden is a bit small for a decent antenna, and "She Who Must be Obeyed!" is not too keen on wires and guys etc!. So, alas, the radio has been neglected of late!STOP PRESS! I've given up and flogged the lot! Woe is me!
