If you've been following our Masterclass tutorials and creating your own Website,
then you will need to upload it on to a search engine so that people can find it.
When you go to search engines such as Alta Vista or Yahoo you will notice that they
have a facility to add a page to their directories.
Search engines such as Yahoo are directory search engines, which means these are like
department stores, full of sections with information in.
Part 2: Submit software
One very easy way of preparing your site for getting on the Internet is to use a piece
of software that does all the hard work for you. One such piece of software is
Submit Wolf. This is a downloadable piece of software, which is quiet cheap.
With the software downloaded and installed on your computer you are ready to add
your site. To the
left of the screen is a panel called 'Projects.' In this piece of software a Website
is called a project. To place your site up you will need to create a new project.
> Go to the 'File' menu and select 'New Project'
> Name the site
> Click 'OK'
> A yellow file will appear in the 'Project' column, this means it is an active one
You now need to key in all the really important information that is needed by people
when they are looking at your site or searching for it.
> Key in your URL into the panel
> In the 'Domain' column select 'UK'
> Select the language
> Click on the 'Keywords' button
You will now need to add some keywords about your site into a dialogue box that
appears. When you are filling this in you will need to think laterally. Forget
about your site and think what things people will be thinking of and the words
they will use to search and how these words can describe your site. But what ever
you do, stuff this box with keywords so you can maximise the amount of hits you get.

Part 3: Search engines
With all the basic information of your Website added to the uploading program, you
now need to categorise it.
> Click on the 'Category' tab
> Select the type of site yours is, Games for instance
> In the next panel there will be a list of sub categories about the main category,
click on these
> Click on the arrow to select them
Do not select too many as some search engines rate according to ranking and the more
categories you
have the lower they rank you.
> Click on the 'Contact' tab
> Key all your contact details into the dialogue box
> Click in the 'Ranking' tab to check your ranking with the search engines
> Click on the 'Engines' tab
> Tick the search engines you want to be listed with
> Click on the 'Link/list' tab if you want to be listed on portals
> Click on the 'Manual' tab, this for listing with directories like Yahoo
> Click on the 'Submit' button
> Click 'OK'
There is a great deal of cross checking, but once it is done you are there, but
remember the true route to a successful Website is through word of mouth, so make
a good site and you will be onto a winner.
