"Ladies' Day""

Our next production will be “Ladies Day”, by Amanda Whittington and will be staged from 28th to 31st October 2009.

This modern play, by increasingly popular playwright Amanda Whittington, was  first staged in 2005 by the Hull Truck Theatre Company is an episode in the lives of four Hull fish packers. Work, love and life are just one long, hard slog for the fish-filleting foursome, but their fortunes are set to change when Linda acquires tickets to Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot the year it relocated to York.

Out go the hairnets, overalls and wellies as the four ditch work, do themselves up to the nines and head off to the races for a drink (or four) , a flirt and a flutter. If their luck holds, and their accumulator comes in, they could hit the jackpot - and more besides!

Cabaret Evening

We have been lucky to be able to book vocalist Helen Barrett, whose songs, in the mould of Ella Fitzgerald, Gershwin, Nina Simone, Peggy Lee, Norah Jones and Eva Cassidy, ignite the spirit and warm the soul, and accompanist jazz pianist Adam Biggs for another of our popular cabaret evenings to be held on 14th November.

See our Next Production Page for more details  and to book your tickets.

Singing and Old Time Music Hall

The Village Players also have a singing group who perform locally – recent engagements have been for residential care homes and local history societies.  We are available for bookings – see details on our singing and Music hall page

Murder Mysteries

We can perform murder mystery evenings within a reasonable travelling distance.  Each murder mystery is a unique production, written by our own murder mystery writer, tailored to the event and premises.  So far we have performed two very successful evenings:  Murder at the Auditions and Murder on Location, and we have more bookings in the pipeline.

This provides a fun evening and is an excellent fund raising, or indeed commercial opportunity (e.g. for village halls, organisations, pubs etc).

Please e-mail us for details at:  evplayers@tinyonline.co.uk .  We have capacity for one more murder mystery this calendar year

Membership

The players welcome new members to our friendly and inclusive society.  Don’t feel you must act – although there is plenty of opportunity for those who do – and for potential directors.  There is lots of scope to help backstage, including technical jobs such as lighting, sound and set construction.  In addition we organise various social activities including theatre trips.
