Match Report

Falmouth continued their “Jekyll and Hyde” run of form with this, their first ever victory at Erme Valley.
Indeed the only question at the end of the game was how the margin of victory was a mere two goals when, with more accurate finishing the score could have been five or six in Town’s favour.
The result saw Town climb to 11th and Ivybridge drop to 5th and manager Alan Carey was equally as pleased with the team’s all round performance as he was with the result.
Falmouth tested home keeper Terry Pelley in the first minute when Ryan Fice and Liam Eddy combined well to set up Danny O’Hagan for a first time shot that resulted in a good save.
Ivybridge forced a corner after 5 minutes which saw Jamie Middleton head wide in a packed area.
Play switched to the other end and Ben Stidwell raced along the right touchline before slipping the ball inside to Fice but his shot on the turn slammed against the post with Pelley a mere spectator.
Falmouth took the lead after 12 minutes; Eddy took the ball along the right flank and put in a perfect cross to the near post where O’Hagan’s firm header flew into the back of the net from eight yards.
Ivybridge launched an attack through the middle and Town keeper Jason Chapman, looking bruised and battered from the Wadebridge game and sporting a broken nose, threw himself at the feet of Gavin Cockman to safely gather the ball as the forward went tumbling, appealing in vain for a penalty.
On the half hour Andy Widdicombe hit a stinging shot which took a slight deflection and ended up hitting the bar before going out for a corner.
Town hit back and the hard working Jimmy Alexander was unlucky to see his shot cleared off the line by Steve Hatfield whose clearance fell to Fice but his point blank shot was well saved by Pelley.
Town maintained the pressure and forced two consecutive corners which saw Sean Flynn’s headers blocked and put wide.
O’Hagan and Fice again combined well amid some tight marking to set up Eddy who raced past a defender only to see his shot tipped over the crossbar by the overworked home keeper.
Falmouth started the second half as they ended the first – on the attack and Richard Kellow somehow managed to head the ball over the bar from 8 yards out as he got on the end of Alexander’s cross.
Liam Eddy, who was revelling in his role wide on the right, fed a first time ball through to O’Hagan but his flick header flew just over the bar.
Ivybridge tried to get back into the game but Town’s defence were rock solid and with Kellow dropping back to assist from his left midfield role, the Devon side were never able to create any cleat cut chances.
Town doubled their lead after 55 minutes. Jimmy Alexander’s low 25 yard free kick out on the right was deflected into his own net by home skipper Justin Crowley’s sliced clearance.
Following this Ivybridge made a couple of substitutions in an attempt to push forward but Town maintained the pressure and Terry Pelley pushed Eddy’s shot out as far as Fice but the former Ivys striker hit his close range effort wide.
Bobby Bryant came on to replace Kellow midway through the half and he had several good runs at the Ivybridge defence but their weight of numbers at the back allied to some wayward finishing by the front line meant that the scoreline was destined to remain as it was.
The game ended with Fice putting a couple of good chances wide of either post as home keeper Pelley looked on.

Falmouth entertain Launceston this Saturday (3pm) before travelling to Liskeard (7.30) on Tuesday.
