Match Report

Falmouth were without five regular first teamers for this traditionally tough encounter at Bolitho Park, due to suspensions, holidays and work commitments and Tom Smith, who is still getting over an ankle injury started on the subs bench.
The first 20 minutes of the game were an even contest with both sides forcing corners as they probed at the defence looking for a way through to goal.
Paul Baker was he first to try his luck but his shot, following a good run from former Falmouth player Matt Cusack, flew just over the bar.
A few minutes later Dave Rawlings, who had a solid game at the heart of Town’s defence, came to the rescue when he hooked he ball off of Baker’s foot as the striker was shaping up to shoot.
Falmouth then forced a couple of corners following good approach work on the left wing from Town’s new signing from Tavistock, Lee Coxon. From one of these, skipper Sean Flynn saw his well hit shot blocked by a defender and the ball was cleared away.
Midway through the half Rob Carey tried his luck from the edge of the area but Parkway keeper Ben Elphick wasn’t troubled as the ball flew wide of the post.
Play switched back to the other end and Gavin Cockman let fly with a fierce shot that had Town’s second team keeper Bryan Scoffin diving full length to his left to push the ball around the post for a corner.
The home side took the lead after 31 minutes when Matt Cusack, out on the left swung the ball across the park to Johnny Morris who pulled the ball back from the by line and Baker shot home low into the far corner of the net.
Falmouth attacked again and forced a corner which resulted in Rawlings hitting a tremendous shot past everyone but the ball cannoned back off the foot of the post.
The second half started off with Scoffin making a good save from Cockman’s  free kick which flew through Town’s defensive wall from just outside the area.
Matt Cusack ran onto a good ball from his brother Aaron and forced a good save out of Scoffin, who in turn cleared the ball upfield to Neil Slateford who went on another of his mazy runs through the Parkway defence and his shot was blocked by Josh Fenwick at the expense of a corner.
On the hour Ollie Gibson broke upfield from his left back position and swung over a lovely cross to Danny O’Hagan but, although he outjumped his shadow for the afternoon Craig Holman, Elphick managed to get his fist to it first and cleared the danger.
Parkway doubled their lead a minute later, Matt Cusack fed the ball to Baker who took the ball past Scoffin and squared it back in to Johnny Morris who fired into an empty net with Town’s defence looking on.
Things got worse for Town after 65 minutes when substitute Ross Saint raced clear only to be brought down by Scoffin just inside the area. The referee had no option to award a penalty and show the keeper the red card. Tom Smith came on for Lee Coxon and took over in goal but he was unable to save Morris’s spot kick.
Falmouth never gave up the chase though and were soon back launching several attacks one of which saw O’Hagan’s snap shot turned away for a corner and then Flynn fed Nigel Thwaites but his shot went just wide.
Town finally got the goal they deserved after 84 minutes. Some good midfield play resulted in a cross coming over from the right and Thwaites rose highest to head the ball from from close range. His last Town goal came 13 years ago!
Smith made a fine save just before the final whistle, pushing a fierce shot from Saint over the bar for a corner.

Falmouth face another stern test on Saturday with Dartmouth coming to Bickland Park (3pm).
