In their first season playing in the South West Counties League, Falmouth Town Ladies clinched the league and cup double in the final game of the season.

Needing only a draw, Town started strongly and by half time had raced into a 3-0 lead with goals from Kerry Anne Moxom, Sasha Sparkes and top scorer Katy Barker. After the break Newquay, to their credit, came back into the game and began to cause Town problems and scoring two quick goals did nothing to help steady Town’s nerves. With 10 minutes to go, Katy Barker took her broke through to score again, taking her seasons tally to 49. Newquay then pulled the score back to 4-3 and gave Falmouth a nervy last few minutes, but they held on to complete a fantastic double.

Neil Phillips, Towns manager, said “the girls have been unbelievable this season. 3 promotions in 3 years and then to win the double, I just can’t praise them enough and I am so proud of what they have achieved”. Promotion means South West Counties Premier League football for the ladies next season, but with that comes the extra travelling and financially this could be a big problem. “I would like to thank our main sponsor Nick Seviour of Cory Environmental who has been fantastic this season and helped the girls to achieve what they have. Sponsors like Falmouth Laundry, Steve Massey, G Medlin decorators, W.C Rowe, Jimmy May, Clarkes upholsteries, John and Michaela Dent, Paddy and Ally of Scrace Builders and Pete McNeil have all played a great part in helping the girls and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all” said Phillips.
If there is anybody out there who would be interested sponsoring the girls next season would they please contact Neil Phillips on 07970282334. Falmouth Town Ladies are aiming to enter the Women’s F. A Cup next season and are only 3 promotions from the Women’s Premier League in which big names such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton have been playing, so any sponsorship would be most appreciated.
