Match Report

Falmouth struggled out of the blocks in their encounter with Launceston on Sunday. Having two players out due to County commitments, Falmouth saw Lisa Harris resume her position between the sticks and Helena Calfe take the right wing role. Launceston battled their way through Falmouths midfield and by half time were rewarded with a goal due to a breakdown in Towns defence and a fumble by the keeper

The half time team talk shook Falmouth up a bit and saw Kim Singh come on for Becky Hall. Kim Singh equalised with a close range shot two minutes into the second half and with Falmouths hunger and desire it was only going to be a matter of time before they scored again. The second half saw Falmouth pass the ball around much more freely and releasing it early to Katy Barker on the left allowed them to capitalise with shots on target. Katy Barker buried the next goal on 55minutes and Launceston were left a bit bewidered. Falmouth continued their attack and after Sarah Winn scored the 3rd, Falmouth upped the pace again and pressed forward, rewarding themselves with two more goals to finish the game with a well deserved win.

Well done you beauties !!

ROCHE LADIES 2 – 6 FALMOUTH TOWN LADIES
Sunday 20th September
d ance (TBC)Atta
Match Report

After their win at Bickland last week against Bude, The girls travelled to Roche knowing that it was this team who pipped them to the post at the top of Cornwall Ladies League Division 1 last season. Some say revenge is a dish best served cold and in the sweltering heat, Falmouth remained a very cool outfit and slotted three goals away by the half time whistle. The goals came from Katy Barker, Keri Ann Moxam and Becky Hall. Roche were resilient and early into the second half they got a goal back. However, Falmouth stayed focussed and Keri Ann bagged another two making her first hattrick and Naomi Blight scored to secure a victory for the Falmouth girls. Roche put on a gutsy performance and managed another goal in the last minute for the game to finish at 2-6.

Falmouth are sitting pretty at the Top of the South West Counties Division West on goal difference. The other 2 teams with 4 wins out of 5 and on 12 points are Marjons and Yeovil. While the girls are riding on the crest of the victory wave at the moment, they are all aware there is a long way to go and know that there is no room for complacency.

Well done girls !!!!

FALMOUTH TOWN LADIES 6 – 4 BUDE LADIES
Sunday 13th September
d ance (TBC)Atta
Match Report

After a defeat last week at Marjons, the Falmouth girls knew they had to step it up and come out this week with intent against a confident Bude side. From the off Falmouth got down to business. For the first twenty minutes Falmouth showed their ability and took their chances well with Katy Barker scoring direct from a corner. Complacency at the back was to prove costly for Falmouth. Falmouth eased off a little and Bude capitalised, putting two past Falmouths goaly.

The second half proved the team talk had the Falmouth girls really determined. Falmouth piled on the pressure and with their precision in passing and dominating possesion, the 3 goals that followed in quick succesion saw the visiting sides' heads drop and the Falmouth girls believing in themselves. Falmouth scored a 5th and the game was beyond Bude but to their credit they battled hard and managed to claw one back before Claire Boyd settled the match to 6 3. In the heat Falmouth were on fire !!!

Katy Barker (3) Sasha Sparkes (1) Claire Boyd (1) Keri-Ann Moxom (1) .

MARJONS LADIES 4 – 2 FALMOUTH TOWN LADIES
Sunday 6th September
d ance (TBC)Atta
Match Report

After winning their two opening games in the South West Counties League, Falmouth travelled to Marjons who also had a 100% start and were beaten 4-2.

Falmouth started the game well and Sasha Sparkes had the ball in the net after 15 minutes but while the Marjons linesman’s flag stayed down, the referee ruled it offside.  Two minutes later a long ball caught the Town defence napping and the Marjons girl nipped in and put them in front.  A mistake at the back 5 minutes later and Marjons went 2-0 up.  Falmouth had several good chances to pull it back and it was Captain Julie Lawrence who got them back in the game 10 minutes before half time.

The second half saw Town miss more chances and they were caught on the break and went 3-1 behind.  With 15 minutes to go, Katie Barker missed a penalty then hit the post.  Sasha Sparkes gave Town a lifeline with a neatly taken goal 5 minutes from full time but Marjons made sure of the 3 points when a corner wasn’t cleared and Jody Newark grabbed Marjons fourth.

Neil Phillips, Manager, said, “We played well enough but we missed lots of chances and made mistakes at the back.  Last season we might have got away with that but in this higher league we paid the price”.

Team: Johnson, Boyd, Sparkes, Scrace, Moxham, Lawrence, Singh, Winn, Barker, Blight, Sparkes.
Subs- Churcher, Calfe, Hurworth.

TOTNES LADIES 0 – 10 FALMOUTH TOWN LADIES
Sunday 30th August
d ance (TBC)Atta
Match Report

Falmouth Town Ladies ran riot against a Totnes side who the previous week had beaten Plymouth Argyle. Town dominated the game from start to finish and it was Katey Barker who set the ball rolling when she slammed in the opening goal after just two minutes.

Three quick goals followed from Hall, Barker and Moxham. Then Sarah Winn scored the best goal of the game when she broke free from midfield and was put through by Becky Hall to brilliantly lobbed the keeper from 30 yds. Then Moxham grabbed her second just before half time to make it 6-0 at the break.

The second half was a formality with Boyd, Sparkes , Scrace and the impressive Johnson debuting in goal giving the Totnes forwards few chances to get on the scoresheet. An own goal, two more for Barker and a goal from Towns captain Julie Lawrence took the tally to ten means Town have made an impressive start in this higher league and have 6 pts from their first two games.

FALMOUTH TOWN LADIES 4 – 1 NEWQUAY LADIES
Sunday 23rd August
d ance (TBC)Atta
Match Report

After observing a minutes silence for Brian “Mr. Newquay” Biggins, who sadly passed away last week, Falmouth Town Ladies opened their first ever South West Counties League fixture with a convincing 4-1 win against a much more experienced Newquay side.

Town started the game brightly and their two wide players Katy Barker and Kerry Ann Moxham were causing all sorts of problems for the Newquay defence but despite having several chances Towns first goal came from a set piece. Barker’s corner in the 25th minute was superbly headed home by Towns captain Julie Lawrence. Sarah Winn had Towns second 10 mins later with a terrific 25 yd strike and minutes before half time Becky Hall converted a near post cross by Moxham to make it 3-0 at the break.

Newquay came out in the second half and put Town under pressure for the first 15 mins and were rewarded when Helen Stubbs neatly put the ball past Churcher to make it 3-1. This spurred Town forward again Hall grabbed her second when she fired home after a great through ball from Boyd. With Naomi Blight supplying chances for her team mates it was a bit of a surprise the score line stayed 4-1. A great start for Town and a big confidence booster for the rest of the season.

Team: Churcher, Sparkes, Johnson, Moxham, Winn, Lawrence (captian), Blight, Barker, Sparkes, Scrace, Hall.
Subs: Boyd, Singh, Hurworth.
Girl of Match; Naomi Blight.
