FAULL And O'REILLY In Scoring Mood Winning Combination
King Country –Counties 5pts, British Isles 25
Taumarunus, Aug 19 – The British Lions, looking a little jaded in their seventeenth
match in New Zealand, beat King Country-Counties by two goals, four penalty
goals and a try to a goal. All their points were scored by O’REILLY
(Ireland) and the Welsh lock forward FAULL.
O’REILLY scored three tries. FAULL converted two and landed four penalty
goals. One of O’REILLY scores was a penalty try, awarded when he was obstructed
near the line.
The Lions, who led 17-0 at half-time, had a virtual monopoly of the ball
– thanks to a fine display by the pack – but there was a lack of penetration
among their backs, who did not always use their opportunities to best advantage.
The home team’s points cam in the closing minutes, when COSSEY picked up
a loose ball and made 20 yards before passing to MEADS. He was stopped
short of the line, but KATTERNS was there to pick up and score. RASMUSSEN
converted the try.
