Felt in the round

Why felt?

Felt is an ancient textile made with all natural and renewable materials, is a pleasure to work with and is enjoying a modern renaissance with many innovative items being produced. Most of it is made in flat sheets either by hand or with modern machinery.

Why felting in the round?

Margaret developed a method of making balls in solid wool using dry felting and wet felting techniques. Friends were so intrigued to learn how they were made that she decided to write:

Felting in the round –an introduction with ‘All balls’

A second book was written describing how a ‘Teddy bears’ picnic’ was made as a contribution to a local Tactile Textile Exhibition:

Bears, buttons and beyond

·        Would you like to try a clean hobby?

·        Would you like a use for your odds & ends of beads and embroidery threads?

·        Do you create textiles and need buttons for decoration?

·        Do you have oddments of wool to use up?

·        Do you have some time to spare?

If the answer is ‘yes’ to some, or all of the above, then dip into the either book and be inspired!

They contain some fresh, modern ideas on an ancient craft using dyed wool tops that do not require any special skills nor any expensive equipment other than use of a washing machine.  It is a craft that is already enjoyed by crafters from 10 to 80 plus!
