Criteria

Homing Criteria

1. You must have a fully fenced and secure garden to a minimum

height of 5 feet, 6 is preferable and 4 feet if we are sure the dog
cannot or will not jump!

2. There must be someone home all day, or you must be able to

prove that regular arrangements are in place for someone to

exercise and visit the dog during your absence.

3. Owners with experience of greyhounds or large breeds are

preferred, but some of our best owners have either had little dogs
or none at all- our assessment of you is a part of the homing process!

4. If you have children, they must come with you to the Sanctuary

as must other dogs in the family.

5. We have homed a number of dogs with cats, sometimes with

several. We will be able to tell you if the dog you choose is cat

friendly or not.

6. Depending on distance, we will either bring the dog to you and

stay with you until you are confident, or arrange for a home visit
by an experienced volunteer on the day you take your dog home.

7. You must agree to supervision of the placement. It will not be

intrusive and is designed to support you in the early days and

keep a "watching brief over the dog for the remainder of its life

with you. The majority of our owners have become friends and

several now have two or even three of our dogs!

8. We sometimes have old dogs -11 and upwards for homing and

these are financially supported by the Charity in respect of vet

bills.
