This adult boar badger was found dead in the middle of a winter wheat field on 10/03/2008 by the landowner.
The carcass was thought to have been there since Saturday night 08/03/2008. There were various tyre marks in this and the adjoining field. The field is right next to the road and has no hedge or fence.

A vehicle, not a big 4 wheel drive but a smaller car (maybe a Subaru), had driven across this field and driven in a circle around the badger.

The badger showed extensive facial injuries. The carcass was taken to Battleflatts Vet Clinic, Stamford Bridge for x-ray. This revealed that the badger had died from blunt trauma to the bridge of the nose and skull. The badger had died due to some force with a blunt instrument striking the skull repeatedly.

The animal had extensive fractures to the bones of the muzzle, cheek, jaw and skull.
The head showed swelling which indicates the animal did not die straight away. This is not a typical road traffic injury. I have examined hundreds of badger carcasses and have seen this type of injury in lamped/dogged badgers in the past.

The land owner has had problems with lampers lately. He showed me wheelings in other sown fields , the same tyre tread as shown around the dead badger.
He is concerned about access to his land and would like advice on any deterrent to these poaching gangs.
