Back To Bedlam James' debut studio album was first released in the UK on 11th October 2004 as a limited edition digipak version (5000 copies). It was re-released on 14th March, 2005 in a standard jewel case format, then re-released yet again on 13th June, 2005 with a "summer blue" cover. The album was recorded in Los Angeles in September 2003 and produced by Tom Rothrock. Released on the Atlantic Records / Custard Records Label. The tracklisting for the album (in order) is High, You're Beautiful, Wisemen, Goodbye My Lover, Tears And Rain, Out Of My Mind, So Long Jimmy, Billy, Cry and No Bravery. It reached #1 in the UK album charts on 10th July 2005 staying there for 8 weeks. It returned to the #1 position on 11th September and returned yet again on 15th January 2006, in total making it 10 weeks at #1. It has sold over two million copies making it a platinum x8 selling album. The album also made number one chart positions in Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, Denmark and Canada, with Number 2 chart positions in Sweden, France and Germany. It was released in the U.S. on 4th October 2005. Back To Bedlam also holds the record for the most albums sold in a year in the UK with 2,368,000 copies in 2005. The album was released on 12" vinyl in the UK on 17th April 2006. In May 2006 Back To Bedlam was re-released with a bonus five track EP disc titled Monkey On My Shoulder.

Bareilles, Sara American singer, songwriter. Sara supported James on the 'VH1 You Oughta Know' All The Lost Souls North American Tour in February/March 2008.

Barton, Mischa American actress but born in London, UK. Best known for her role as Marissa Cooper in the U.S. TV show The O.C. Has also had film roles in The Sixth Sense and Notting Hill. She stars in the music video for Goodbye My Lover with Matt Dallas. Mischa also presented James with his Award for Best New Act in a video message shown at the MTV Europe Music Awards in November 2005.

Batson, Mark Acclaimed songwriter and producer based in Los Angeles. Has worked with amongst others Eminem, Beyonce, Dave Matthews Band, Seal and Maroon 5. Mark co-wrote the song 1973 with James.

Batus James served for 6 months in 1998 on training at BATUS (The British Army Training Unit Suffield). The unit is located at the Canadian Forces Base, Suffield in South-Eastern Alberta, Canada, one of the largest military bases in the world. His regiment was schooled in tank and armoured vehicle warfare, and played the role of the opposing force (OpFor) against other British units who cycled through for 6 week training camps. The area is extremely remote and wild, with only scrubby vegetation.


'Beardy'
Beard, Paul Keyboardist and backing vocalist in James Blunts live band. Had previously worked with Black Grape, Utah Saints, The Bluetones and Razorlight. 'Beardy' is the earliest member of the band since 2004. A co-producer with James on the acoustic version's of So Long Jimmy, High, I’ve spent more time with Paul than I have with any girlfriend I’ve ever gone out withJames Blunt Fall At Your Feet which featured as B-sides on the single of You're Beautiful. Paul often travels with James during promotional tours performing on radio/TV as a duo. James refers to Paul as his 'Bitch'. Paul, known for his loud shirts and dance routines during live performances of the slade cover Coz I Luv You where James encourages the audience to shout 'Dance Bitch! Dance!". Paul is also in the band Ambershades with fellow James Blunt guitarist, Ben Castle. Paul wrote and co-produced with James the song Dear Katie which is the B-side to the single release of 1973. Paul is credited for playing Piano, Hammond Organ, Wurlitzer and vocals on James' second studio album All The Lost Souls.

Bedlam A former mental asylum located in London, England. Originally called Bethlem (or Bethlehem) Royal Hospital but was popularly known as Bedlam. One of the inspirations for the albums title Back To Bedlam.

Bedlamites Nickname for insane fans and stalkers of James Blunt. The name 'Bedlamites' was first coined by Debs on the Messageboard on the Official James Blunt Website in May 2005 and was influenced by the title of James' debut studio album Back To Bedlam. James himself has often refered to his own fans as Bedlamites.

Beedle, Ashley British DJ Ashley Beedle (often mis-spelled as 'Beadle') remixed James' song 1973. The remix features as a b-side on the Same Mistake single.

Billy The eighth track on James' debut studio album Back To Bedlam. Co-written by James, Amanda Ghost and Sacha Scarbeck. A version of Billy recorded live at 93 Feet East is also on the B-side to the Wisemen Single. The song is about James' friend Billy. James said he wrote a song about him because he owes him money. He is also mentioned in the lyrics to James' song I Can't Hear The Music with the line 'Run Yoshimi run ‘Cause Billy’s got himself a gun'. Billy is the moderator of the Messageboard on the Official James Blunt Website and he also occasionally models clothing for Daddy and Playboy.

Birthday James Hillier Blount was born on February 22nd 1974 at a Military Hospital in Tidworth, Hampshire, UK. His Star-sign is Pisces and he was born in the Chinese year of the tiger. There's much debate about his real age with many official claims he was born in the year 1977. In the Video for the Wisemen (re-release) James is shown burning personal documents including his own passport. In several shots in the video, his year of birth on the passport is clearly shown as 1974.

Bishops, The British band. The Bishops supported James on his UK Tour in January 2008 and the European Tour in October/November 2008.

Bleed On Me Early demo song written by James. Bleed On Me was later reworked into the song Breathe. Bleed On Me was also the original working title for James' first studio album Back To Bedlam.

Blasko, Sarah Singer, songwriter from Australia. Sarah supported James on his North American tour in October/November 2005.

Blount James' real surname is Blount, but it is pronounced the same as Blunt. James Hillier Blount changed it because he didn't want people trying to say the hidden 'o'. The Blount family have a long history connected with the military. James' early ancestors were Danish Vikings, who landed in Flanders in 938 and became the first Counts of Guisnes (near Calais).  The surname Blount means 'blonde'. A famous ancestor of James was Bessie Blount, who was Henry VIII's mistress. The Blount family motto is 'Lux Tua Vis Mea' meaning 'Your Light Is My Strength'. This motto features on the balloon artwork on James' debut album Back To Bedlam.

Karl Brazil
Brazil, Karl Drummer with the James Blunt's band. Joined in June 2004 for James’ first appearance at Glastonbury and the Elton John support tour. Karl has built an excellent reputation within the music business and is considered to be one of the country’s top drummers. Between 1995-96 he was the in house drummer at Ronnie Scott's club, London. He has played live with a variety of artists, including Darius, Lulu, Shania Twain, Will Young, Lionel Richie, Natalie Imbruglia and Elton John. He has also recorded with a number of bands, most recently with Rooster and The Bodyrockers. Since 1994 Karl has also held his own 'Drum Clinics' teaching skills and techniques to aspiring drummers. Karl is credited for playing drums and vocals on James' second studio album All The Lost Souls.

Breakfast In America Supertramp cover song. First performed by James and the band during the North American Fall Tour in 2006.

Breathe Song written by James. Breathe is a reworked version of an earlier demo song titled Bleed On Me. Breathe was first played live in October 2005 for the UK tour. James opened the gigs with this song replacing the former opening favourite Dancing Days. On 25th February 2007 at Elton John's 15th annual AIDs Foundation Academy Awards party in Los Angeles, James performed Breathe live accompanied by Elton on piano. The song is expected to be on James' third studio album Some Kind Of Trouble.

Bristol University James attended Bristol University and studied aeronautical engineering and sociology. He wrote his sociology dissertion entitled 'The Commodification of Image - Production of a Pop Idol'. The army paid for his tuition fee's and in turn he owed them 4 years military service. James graduated from Bristol in 1996 with a BSc(Hons) in Sociology.
