The Fergusons of North West England
to my web site.
According to my family folklore our Fergusons came originally from Dumfrieshire in Scotland, however, to date no evidence of this has been found. My own family is known to be descended from the Fergusons of Kendal and specifically from Ben Ferguson who was living there in the late 18th century. He was born about 1766 but his origin, other than it was not in Westmorland, is unknown.
Ben had four sons, Samuel, William, Benjamin and James.
As these names run through the families and since they seem to hold to the tradition that the first son should be named after his grandfather it is quite possible that Ben's father was also named Samuel. My third great-grandfather was Ben's son, William, and a comprehensive pedigree of my own family will be found on:

Descendant Charts:
This site is intended for use as a research tool for those wishing to explore the ancestry of the Fergusons within the north west of England. It should be emphasised that because of it's nature the site may contain duplicates and the material is a best estimate only. You own verification is strongly recommended.
To this end I welcome contributions from anyone and anywhere, so please do use the email facility below.
When justified, I will be more than happy to include additional descendant charts of Fergusons from the area to whom I am not related, as the aim is to build up a comprehensive list of holders of the surname.
My Fergy's Website is not limited to the male line but includes Ben Ferguson's descendants of both sexes (where known). It will, however, continue to be used exclusively for my relatives. Except for the searchable parish registers.
