North Ferriby United 1 - 1 Ashton United

There is sometimes no justice in this world as Ferriby ground out a point against Ashton United.
The men from Church Road had superior territorial advantage and created far more than their opponents.
But apart from a Gary Bradshaw goal in the first half Ferriby failed to find the net and take the three points on offer.
Assistant manager John Anderson was again pleased with the side’s performance. He, like manager Neil Allison and the players, knows things are not just going right for them at the moment.
“It was yet another good performance and we totally deserved to get the three points had we taken our chances”, said Anderson
“But after a few defeats we’ve managed to get a point so it’s not the end of the world. We’d rather have got the three though a point gives us something to build on.
“We asked after Saturday’s defeat for a performance but we didn’t need to tell them what they needed to do. The reaction we got tonight was superb and they worked really hard.
I don’t think the lads got the reward they deserved but all we can ask for is 100 per cent commitment. If we get beaten by a better team or a wonder goal we can accept that.
“As long as the boys give us and the people who come to watch us their all you cannot ask for any more. I certainly think we got that tonight as they were there to be beaten.
“We went 1-0 up and then put a couple of great balls into the box and with the surface being slippery I thought we were going to get them. But the ball isn’t rolling for us at the moment and the chances didn’t go in.”
Ferriby started with great passion and commitment and without injured trio of Paul Foot, Ben Morley and Chris Bolder. Matty Bloor was thrust into midfield and did a superb job.
Allison brought himself back into the side to ensure the defence remained tight. There was also a return to first team action after a long stint out for Joel Hartley and his pace was a threat all night.
The early chances went to Ferriby with Danny Ryan, Nathan Hotte and Gary Bradshaw all going close. Down the other end Antoni Pecora looked quite safe in goal for the home side.
Ferriby made the break through on 23 minutes when Melford Knight brought down Craig Hall on the edge of the area. Michael Price’s free kick cannoned off the wall for a corner.
Price floated the ball into the box from the resultant corner for a rising Bradshaw to head home for a 1-0 lead. They could have gone two up a few minutes later had the striker been able to connect with a Hartley cross.
Ferriby looked comfortable having gone in leading at the break but a slow start to the second half cost them. There was an appeal against Allison for hand ball in the area but which wasn’t given.
But when Steve Garvey rifled in a shot it rebounded off a somewhat helpless Pecora. Ian Fitzpatrick was the first to react to slot home the equaliser for the visitors.
Ferriby’s territorial advantage continued as Bloor had a shot well saved on two occasions. Andy Thompson should have put Ferriby in front but failed to connect to a rebound off the keeper.
It would have been rough justice had Ashton scored with the last play of the game. Gray Furnival rose to head again the post as the referee blew for time and it was honours even.
