City man of the match: Michael Bridges
Showed he still wants a future at the KC Stadium with a sumptuous volley and an assist to cap an intelligent showing in the City attack.

Ferriby man of the match: Joel Hartley
A promising performance from the left-winger gave Nathan Doyle plenty to think about and his deliveries caused the Tigers a number of headaches.

Eyecatcher:
Two decades on from plying his trade at Church Road, Dean Windass got his pre-season off and running with a well-taken header - complete with a new haircut.

MICHAEL Bridges and Stephen McPhee gave a timely reminder of their talents to get Hull City's pre-season campaign off to a promising start.

With manager Phil Brown desperate to strengthen his attacking options before next month's Championship kick-off, it was two of his current crop that helped avoid an embarrassing afternoon.

Non-league North Ferriby had City pegged back at 1-1 past the hour mark only for a flourish from Bridges and McPhee to spare their blushes.

A stunning half volley from Bridges and a well-taken brace from McPhee eventually saw the Tigers canter to victory and leave Brown content with his side's efforts.

"It was an excellent run-out," said Brown. "You knew it was going to be competitive because it was a non-league side against a professional outfit.

"They put themselves about and didn't shirk any challenges, which is very good for us.
"It was a very good day at the office and gave the fans the chance to see the new faces."
Summer signings Richard Garcia and Bryan Hughes made their first appearances in a strong first half -line-up but it was the other "new signing" who stole the show - in more ways than one.

With an outlandish peroxide blonde haircut, Dean Windass was on hand to give City an early lead.
Stuart Elliott's inviting cross from the left flank was met well by Windass and he provided a header into the top corner against his former side.

More notably, supporters were given a glimpse of a potential 4-4-2 formation Brown may yet opt for come August 11.
With Garcia and Elliott providing width, Ian Ashbee and new-boy Hughes made up an attacking midfield four behind the clever interplay of Windass and Nick Barmby.

In particular, it was Garcia that shone down the right wing and when he rounded Antoni Pecora, Barmby should have converted a glorious chance.

However, there were moments of concern at the other end for City to give Ferriby optimism.
Joel Hartley's fine cross was met David Cook only for Matt Duke to save low while Gary Bradshaw thumped the City bar when meeting Paul Foot's clever pull-back on the stroke of half-time.

All change at half-time - including both side's kits - meant a switch to 4-3-3 for a largely youthful City side.
Despite taking on the captaincy duties, Danny Coles would rather forget his afternoon.
A swirling cross from the Ferriby left was headed back across goal by Mally Osindiende only for Coles to miscontrol on his goal-line and give the none-leaguers parity.

With Bridges looking in great shape at the opposite end, Coles need not have worried as the Tigers soon regained the lead in style.

Picking up play on the right angle of the penalty area, Bridges dispatched a stunning half-volley to give Pecora no chance and City the lead once more.

Inside two minutes, Bridges then turned provider with a pinpoint cross to McPhee who made no mistake with his header inside the six-yard box.

Despite the valliant efforts of Ferriby, the game turned into a canter for their professional neighbours.
Route-one football eventually gave the scoreline a flattering edge late in the game as Boaz Myhill's long punt found Mcphee through on goal and he produced a composed finish for 4-1.
