North Ferriby United 1 - 2 Ilkeston Town

By James and Mark Chestney

A last minute own goal from Chris Bolder sent Ferriby crashing to a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Ilkeston Town .

They deserved to take at least a point from a game they dominated throughout. It would have been just reward for the effort put in by Neil Parsley’s side and the manager was aware of this.

“We didn’t deserve to come away from today with nothing but that’s the way our season is going at the moment,” said Parsley.

“There were two nervy sides out there today and neither side could really have warranted being in front at halftime but they were. The second half certainly saw us in the ascendancy and we deserved better.

“We gave away yet another sloppy goal but Gary (Bradshaw) came up with a fantastic effort to draw us level. We deserved that but when you are down at the bottom it’s the little things which go against you.”

Ferriby brought in new signing Craig Hall into midfield with Michael Price dropping to the bench. Ben Morley also returned but Joel Hartley missed out through injury.

Town had a player people will remember from his days at Hull City in Martin Carruthers. But apart from him the visitors created very little in attack and in reality were gifted both goals.

The downside for Ferriby in the opening half was an injury picked up by captain Paul Foot. He limped off with a leg injury on 26 minutes to be replaced by Matty Bloor

Both sides lacked vision and ideas in the first half and it was a mistake which caused the first goal. It came from a slip by Bloor in midfield which was picked up by Adam Muller.

The striker headed for goal and in a tackle Jamie Waltham looked to have got something on the ball, Muller went down in the box. The referee deemed it to have been a tackle from behind and awarded a penalty.

Waltham was given a yellow card with the Ilkeston contingent remonstrating it should have been a straight red. It wasn’t and Muller powered the ball high to the diving Antoni Pecora’s left.

Then a minute from halftime a rare attack on goal from Town almost resulted in a second goal. This time Pecora got down saving from Colin Hunter from close range.

Ferriby upped the anti going into the second half and were all over their opponents. Bloor went close in putting a shot over the bar and down the other end Hunter was again off target.

But if you are looking for top quality goals look no further than Bradshaw for something special. He took the ball on the edge of the area and put in a thunderbolt into the top corner giving Peter Pettinger no chance.

This spurred the home side on and Bloor again went close as did Neil Allison and Danny Ryan. But naivety got the better of Ferriby a minute from time as Town attacked down the left.

Carruthers had only been on the field twelve minutes when he released Muller. He put in a cross intended for Lee Featherstone but Bolder got in the way only to put the intended clearance past a helpless Pecora.
