One defensive error early in the second half cost North Ferriby
at least a point from their thrilling encounter with Lincoln United.
This was a game which Ferriby deserved to get
something from but it wasn’t to be.
Manager Neil Allison had asked for a response from his players after
the 3-1 defeat at Stamford.
This he got but Ferriby were unable to break down the Lincoln defence
to gain something from the game. And it was a hugely disappointed
Allison at the end of the game but a man who was in total praise of
his players efforts.
“It’s just disappointing and I’m gutted for them
because I thought they were brilliant tonight in every position,”
he said.
“The work rate was good and I didn’t see any reason to
change it as nobody was flagging. But it was a night in which nothing
went for us and they came here and tried to catch us with the long
ball.
“I said to the lads at halftime the only thing which is going
to do you is a lapse of concentration, a set piece or the long ball
down the middle. It showed we can get the ball down and play and are
a good side when we do it.
“You can be a good side passing it but you need results and
maybe we should have had a few shots but we got no real clear sights
on goal. Again the lads are working hard to get into these positions
and I can’t fault them.”
Ferriby’s commitment showed in the opening few minutes when
Chris Bolder was cautioned for a thundering challenge on Richard Butler.
But the real hero was Antoni Pecora who had a superb game between
the sticks.
Time and again the keeper was forced to pull off save after save as
Lincoln carved out chances. These came from outside the box but the
20 year old was in exceptional form.
Ferriby had chances through Gary Bradshaw, Nathan Hotte and Craig
Hall but couldn’t quite get on target. It was an end to end
game with maybe one chance going to be the difference.
It was a chance which came from a mistake in the Ferriby defence five
minute into the second half. A mix up in the Ferriby defence between
Andy Thompson and David Cooke saw Lincoln take possession.
Gavin Knight was allowed to take the ball to the edge of the area
before placing a shot wide of Pecora. It was to be the only goal of
the game and in fairness the only guilt edge chance of the game.
The tempo lifted in the second half as Butler and Ben Brown plus Hotte
were all cautioned. Ferriby looked to mount a late challenge on goal
with Bradshaw, Cooke, Price and Danny Ryan all going close.
But despite the defeat Ferriby can once again take heart from a spirited
performance. It is now only a matter of time before they come off
the pitch having taken three well deserved points.
