Match Report - 15.09.07 - FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round
Liversedge v North Ferriby United
By Mark Chestney

North Ferriby United manager Neil Parsley has admitted he has reached ‘rock bottom’ having seen his side exit the Eon sponsored FA Cup.

Northern Counties East League side Liversedge came up with one of the shocks of the round by dumping the Unibond side out of the competition by a single goal.

Ferriby never looked like a team who were interested and didn’t have their first shot on goal until well into the second half.

This has to be the lowest point at the club for a very long time and it means the pressure mounts even further on the manager’s future at the club.

“I couldn’t get any lower as I have hit rock bottom and we are out of the FA Cup,” admitted Parsley.

“These are games you have got to battle in and we didn’t have a shot on goal until the 73rd minute. This isn’t good enough but losing Danny Ryan in the build up and Joel Hartley after 35 minutes didn’t help.”

Parsley had gone on record earlier in the week stating he felt under pressure but was still committed to the football club. But this frankly embarrassing defeat is not going to help his now untenable position at the club.

Ferriby took their appalling league form into the FA Cup looking for a performance which would kick start their season. It didn’t come and this result has only seen the club plummet to their worst start to a season for a very long time.

Anyone looking for positives from this game will certainly struggle as the side lacked creativity and flare. But all credit to the lower league side who beat Ferriby hands down in every department.

The home side could have been 3 or 4 up by halftime and had very little to defend as Ferriby offered nothing in attack. Their set plays were not good enough as the Liversedge defence of Matthew Wood, Daniel Cooper and Matthew Sparks were outstanding.

Injuries and suspensions dictated Parsley had to throw a lot of youngsters into the white hot atmosphere of a big FA Cup tie. What you get with the likes of Mally Osindeinde, Alex Davidson and Craig Hall is enthusiasm but lacking the vital ingredient of experience.

The goal when it came was typical of Ferriby this season in conceding a free kick on the edge of the area. This came in the 39th minute from Nicky Boshell, his fourth of the season.

It was a perfectly taken free kick which looped over the wall giving Antoni Pecora no chance as he was left flat footed. It gave Liversedge a deserved lead and one they would take into the next round.

Ferriby finally came to life in the latter stages of the game when first Paul Foot and then Michael Price hit the crossbar with consecutive shots on goal. But the NCEL side held out to make the trip to Spennymoor Town in the next round.
