Ferriby suffered their first defeat under recently appointed manager
Neil Allison at Stamford by 3 goals to 1.
It was to be Stamford ’s superior finishing that clinched victory
in this clash of two in form sides.
It was the proverbial game of two halves as the home side raced into
a 3-0 lead with no reply from Ferriby.
People may look at this as Allison’s honeymoon period being
over but it was just a case of not continuing their good work from
recent weeks. It’s about playing for the full 90 minutes which
is what they didn’t do.
“In the first half the players just stopped doing what they
had been doing in recent weeks,” said Allison.
“I was very disappointed with our first half performance and
you can’t be three goals down and expect to get anything. But
the second half performance was totally different as we fought for
everything.
“I cannot stress enough to my playersthat they have to be willing
to give it their all for the full 90 minutes. When we have the ball
we stop them playing and when they’ve got it we go and get it.
“I personally think we handed them the game rather than them
going out and beating us. We just have to make sure we get back into
the groove for the visit of Lincoln United to Church Road on Tuesday
night.”
Stamford went ahead just six minutes in when Daniel French added to
his catalogue of spectacular goals. A stunning shot from out on the
right beat Antoni Pecora all ends up for his sixth of the season.
A flowing move then brought the home side a second goal from Tyrone
Kirk on 17 minutes. Lee Colkin, Robert Hughes, Leon Mettam and Battersby
were all involved in the build up as Kirk fired home.
Just after the half hour came number three as Mettam’s pass
played in Kirk on the righ. He put in the cross which Mettam smashed
the home and the home side were cruising at 3-0.
North Ferriby had posed little in attack but did grab a lifeline just
before the half-time break. A move down the left ended with Dave Cooke
slotting home from James McGarry’s pass.
The second half was a different story entirely. Ferriby, confidence
boosted by their goal, dominated proceedings. Chris Bolder went close
off a Cooke free kick before Cooke himself headed over.
Craig Hall was narrowly too high with a well struck effort as Ferriby
continued to pressure. Gary Bradshaw could only stab the ball against
the post 15 minutes from time off a Nathan Hotte flick.
