Extract from Grand Lodge Newsletter, May 2007

On Thursday 25th January 2007, W.Bro. George Finnigan was installed as WM of Tyre Masonic
Lodge No. 724, for the third time. Perhaps not in itself such a remarkable feat, but when you
consider that George has only been a Mason for 9 years. George became a Master Mason on
7th January 1999 and reached the Chair for the first time in 2002 and was installed for the
second time the following year.
He was also recently appointed as a Provincial Grand Lodge Inspector in the Province of Down
in November 2006, taking over from his Father-in-Law, the late W.Bro. Eric McKibben. Pictured

"I hope my achievements in life shall be these: That I will have fought for what was right and fair, that I will have risked for that which mattered, that I will have given help to those who were in need. That I will have left the earth a better place for what I"ve done and who I"ve been".
BBQ

As expected the Lodge and our Members supported the annual BBQ, we had an attendance of over
60/70, unfortunately the weather did not come up to expectations, it did stay dry in the early evening
allowing the use of the massive BBQ, those too hungry to wait, enjoyed the chicken curry and rice
provided by Bro Peter Lowry with assistance from Bro, Wayne Barnes.
The Disco was an acceptable compromise between the older and younger members, considering
we usually provide live bands; requests were the order of the night and everyone enjoyed the music
from the 60's,70's, and 80's.
The event was once again in the black, but as I said in the pre BBQ news that was not the intention,
hence the low ticket price, it's a time for the Members and families to get together and enjoy each
others company, many thanks to those who assisted in organising the night, the Members and
visitors for supporting us especially the WM, W.Bro. Brian Lee who had 14 guests with him, and who
provided the ladies prize on the night.

Ladies Night

The Ladies night is on Friday 30th October, in the Stormont Social Club, a bus will be running from
Newtownards, times to follow, members will be notified nearer this date with details.
Tickets have now been issued and details will be forthcoming, Members are asked to notify the
Secretary of their intentions and requests for more tickets, the pickup points for the bus will be
included with all other details of the night.

This night was another well organised event and was appreciated by those who attended, including
the Provincial Assistant Grand Master, R, W.Bro. Roger Matthews and his wife Rosemary, thanks to
all who contributed either with setting up or attending the Dance.
The Pavilion in Stormont was an excellent location for our night, the food was more than sufficient
for our needs, and our Members and Guests enjoyed another successful evening.
The Disco once again went down well with the wide range of age groups, playing requests and music
from all era's, this is an option you may wish to consider to keep everyone happy, and i hope prepared
to attend Tyre functions knowing they will have a good night, we will certainly consider using them again.

There are a few changes to the site, firstly the removal of the placecards and Master's song, i will
add them once again if there is sufficient demand, two new pages to incorporate the Newtownards
Masonic Craft Class of Instruction into the website fully, and the Masonic Centre information page,
I will continue to update them on a regular basis, if there is any other information you would like to
see, please feel free to ask me.
