Battery Replacement Options
index.html
There are three choices open at the time of writing when one needs to replace a Giant battery for a LafreeTwist, Comfort, or ST model:

1) A new one from Giant.  At one time upgraded to 9Ah and 216 W/h, now back to the previous standard 6.5 Ah and 156 W/h capacity, leaving the bike's range unchanged.  The price at time of writing is £250.

2) Using a recelling company to re-cell the battery.   Twike UK recell bike batteries including the Lafree ones.   Phone: 07707 237070,  email aschroeer@twike.co.uk

3) Fitting a prepared recell pack yourself.  If it's still available, Powacycle's NiMh battery for the Salisbury model can be scavenged for it's cellpack and that's the cheapest route and it's 8.5 Ah also increases the range by 31%.   Batteryspace in the USA supply a 10 Ah pack code 3R767 which increases the range by 54%.   Postage costs are reasonable, though you might find a small customs duty charge following, whether that's applied being in the lap of the gods.

If you'd like to have a deeper look at what's involved in recelling, click here.  The example is with a Powacycle pack, but please read the warning below.

WARNING.   Re-celling should not be undertaken lightly. There are possible dangers both during and after the operation if the instructions given here are not followed closely.  Care must be taken not to short adjacent cells together, and all possible points for subsequent shorting must be insulated  adequately. As well as protecting the battery to ensure long life, the temperature sensors are essential safety features, so they must be replaced in the same positions as in the old cellpack.  The  responsibility disclaimer  on  the  Home  Page applies here.
