How to get there

From Orlando International OR Sanford Airport

  • Take the airport exit road and follow the signs for the 417 SOUTH. (This is a toll road and the total toll will be $2.75 from Orlando International or $6.00 from Sanford) this will take you on to the I 4. Whilst it IS a toll road it IS worthwhile using it as it will save you having to get stuck on the US version of the M25.
  • Keep on this road until you see the signs for Interstate 4 (I 4). Take the exit for the I 4 South. This is approximately 2 miles
  • Leave the I 4 at junction 58 and this will bring you to CHAMPIONS GATE. (See picture)
  • The I 4 will bring you up a slip road that is just out of view on the bottom of the picture. Make sure that you stay RIGHT on the slip road (which is quite short and comes up very quickly)
  • You will need to go through the gates and follow the road until you come to a T junction. (Approx ¾ of a mile)
  • This will be the US 54 or “Ronald Reagan Parkway”.
  • Turn RIGHT onto this road and follow until you get to the junction with US 27. Turn RIGHT at this junction.
  • Carry on up the US 27 for about 4 miles until you see the traffic light junction. As soon as you see the lights, get into the left hand lane as you will be turning left into SAND MINE ROAD.
  • The entrance to REGAL PALMS is approximately 300 yards on the RIGHT.
  • Directions to the property will be given to you by reception.

IF YOU MISS THE TURNING AT THE AIRPORT
Alternative directions to Regal Palms

The road out of the airport is a bit daunting for first timers as it is multi lane affair. To help, you can also follow these directions.
If you head NORTH out of the airport(Orlando international), get on to and follow the U.S. 528 Beeline Expressway (toll road) this will lead you to the I 4 at junction 72.
This will bring you onto the I 4 about 10 – 15 miles north of the U.S. 417 but as long as you remember to exit at junction 58, you will be able to follow the earlier directions.
WWW.ORLANDO-MAPS.INFO is a good map site.

From Orlando Sanford Airport

Exit the airport car park and at the lights turn RIGHT. At the next set of lights turn LEFT onto LAKE MARY BOULEVARD. Take the EAST BOUND 417 (toll road) and keep on this road until you get to the I-4. This will take you about 45 minutes and the total toll is about $6. (I can assure you that it is worth the toll as the 417 is never busy!) When you get to the I-4 junction, you will need to take the EAST ramp. You will only have to stay on this road for about 2 miles. You will be taking junction 58 off the I-4. which will bring you up to CHAMPIONS GATE. When you come up the slip road, bear RIGHT and filter in with the traffic. You will need to go through the gates and follow the road until you come to a T-junction. (Approx. ¾ of a mile) This will be the US 54 or “Ronald Reagan Parkway”. Turn RIGHT onto this road and follow until you get to the junction with US 27. Turn RIGHT at this junction. (Remember that you can filter RIGHT at a red traffic light in the US. There is a filter lane at this junction. Carry on up the US 27 for about 3 ½ miles until you see the traffic light junction. As soon as you see the lights, get into the left-hand lane, as you will be turning LEFT into SAND MINE ROAD. (You should see the Publix supermarket front left) The entrance to REGAL PALMS is approximately 300 yards on the RIGHT. Total drive time about 75 minutes. TOTAL TOLLS $6.00

Greater Orlando area map

Driving in Florida

The drivers are courteous in Florida. The petrol can vary in price but the HESS garage on Disney is usually the cheapest around the area. Another good place is the big RACE TRAC along the 192. Good maps (or adequate for finding your way around) are available in a whole range of “coupon” books or free guides to the Orlando area. The I 4 is a good road, but like a lot of the major roads in the area, is subject to major construction. This will however be the main road that you will need to get to Tampa if you want to go to BUSCH GARDENS (approx 1 ¼ hours).

Getting to the parks the easy way

The I 4 and US 192 can get really busy and, with major construction works ongoing, you can easily spend over an hour in the car getting to the parks. To get to the parks in about 15 – 20 minutes, you can follow this “workers route” and have more time enjoying yourselves.

From the resort, head North on US 27 and take the off ramp for the US 192. Just before mile marker 5, get into the left lane, and then, just after the mile marker, get into the left turn lane, as you will be turning at the stoplight. Turn LEFT into SHERBERTH ROAD Follow this for about 1.5 miles and it will bring you onto the main Disney highway (Osceola Parkway) you need to turn RIGHT onto this road, which then leads to all the parks and “Downtown Disney” (where you will find Cinemas, Disney outlets and restaurants aplenty) Just make sure that you take note of the first junctions so that you will be able to “back track” and have an easier route back to the resort. The direction signs on this road are not very good so, you will need to take note of the “surroundings”.

Other parks - a good route

The Rocket Garden on the space coast
if you are planning a day at Sea World or Universal Studios. Turn South (right) out of the Resort down Highway 27.
After 5 miles, turn left at the FIRST set of traffic lights onto Ronald Reagan Parkway (Walgreen's Pharmacy on the left).
After 2 miles turn left into Champion's Gate Blvd. Drive through Champion's Gate past the BP garage on the right.
Go under the I4 and then turn left onto Interstate I-4. Disney is the next exit off the I-4, after 2? miles (Exit 45B). Total distance about 8 miles, but much quicker.
This route usually takes 15 minutes. If you want to go to Sea World or Universal Studios, continue on Interstate I-4 take Exit 71 for Sea World, or Exit 75A for Universal Studios.

Mount Dora

The lighthouse on the lovely lake at Mount Dora

This is well worth a visit. You will see that"real Florida" is a stones throw from the "tourist mecca" that is Orlando.
This is a lovely little town, which is about 40 minutes from the resort but light years different to the razzmatazz of the Disney area. It has some great arts and craft shops a “historical” railway, lovely lakeside park and wonderful café dining. It really is a must if you need a break from the parks and see some of the “real Florida” Head North on US 27 past Clermont.

Take the off ramp for US 19. and follow this for some way. Take the 441 and follow this into Mt Dora. (you will be getting onto the 46 for at some stage but, follow the signs and you will not have a problem) If the central car parks are full, you can normally find a parking lot down by the lake. Enjoy!!!!
