General Notes:
Where did William [Flude, Flood, Fludd or LLoyd] come from?
How did he acquire his lands in Monks Kirby?
1. A William Flood [Flude] married Margery Grene at Strood, near Rochester 27
May 1566.
2. He has a brother Richard Flude
3. He has a sister Ellen
4. His overseers included Christopher Par[c]kwood and Thomas Stone both
having links with Fillongley, Warwickshire.
5. In 1569 Christopher Par[c]kwood and Adrian Stokes were joint overseers in
the will of Andrew Brooke who lived in Monks Kirby.
6. His executor was his elest son Randolph, presumed to be of "full
age" in 1593, and therefore born before c1572.
Richard Flude is thought to have died at Aston, Birmingham in 1608.
Ellen is probably his sister-in-law [nee Helen Shepherd], the widow of his
brother George Flude of Exhall, Warwick.
William could be the William Lloyd, son of Philip Lloyd of Hardwick, Salop
He could equally be the William Lloyd, son of John Lloyd of Morton, Salop.
If from Hardwick, William would also be the g-g-grandson of Anna Fielding,
the sister of Sir Everard Fielding of Newnham Paddox Manor, Warwickshire. She
married Thomas Shuckburgh, whose descendants Eusby and Edward Shuckburgh,
High Sheriffs, are mentioned in Randolph's will of 1626.
If from Morton, William would be the brother of Sir Thomas Fludd [Flood] of
Milgate, Bearsted, Kent, Chief Treasurer of the English army that was sent to
France during the reign of Elizabeth I. Strood is near Rochester which would
be one of the naval ports used by this army. Bearsted is also close by.
Nevertheless, his actual origins remain a mystery.
William's will was proved in the PCC of Cantebury, an indication of his
wealth. He split his estate into four equal portions, forty English pounds to
each of his four sons which supports the theory that he might have been
Welsh, or from the Welsh border lands, for they divided their estates equally
between all their sons, natural or otherwise.
In order to fulfill the terms of his father's will, his eldest son Randolph
sold all the lands and property "piece-meal". The records reveal
the disposal of his estate to his eldest and youngest sons. The youngest
William received his portion in 1603 by an indenture of that date and
Randolph received his portion by the indenture dated 1608.
