Old Hillmians First XV 1963

The very first rugby union football club at Hemsworth was founded prior to the Second World War and was known as the Old Hillmians.  The present Club was formed in 1960 by old boys of the local Grammar School, and was renamed Hemsworth Rugby Union Football Club in 1970.

Since its formation in 1970, Hemsworth RUFC has, like most clubs, had its ups and downs.  We have won the Yorkshire Silver Trophy (1983/ 4), the Yorkshire Shield (1986/7) and played in all the Yorkshire Leagues from Division 1 to our present position in Yorkshire 5.  The ethos of the club remains the same in that we will play at the level we can sustain within our resources as an amateur club.

From our humble origins as a rugby team with no home, moving from pub to pub, we now have our own Clubhouse playing fields and training areas which are wholly owned by the club thanks to the careful stewardship of our hard working Committee.

Visitors are assured of a warm, friendly reception and will be most welcome to enjoy our facilities and will hopefully become members.

This is the planning stage for our present  home at Moxon’s Fields

There are some fashion crimes here  -  what WERE you thinking boys?

 Final 1987 First XV

Since then we have scoured the heady heights of  the Yorkshire Shield and we were winners in 1987 of the Yorkshire Shield
