The Evenings
Ready Steady Cook!
25th January 2005
Well, what can I say…it was a lot of mess and a lot of fun!!!
We met at our local Sainsbury’s and after a 20 minute dash round the store,
a budget of £5, and a faulty calculator we emerged hands laden with bags ready
to prepare…hmm. It took just under 10 minutes to walk back to the Guide Hut,
and the moment the door was opened there was a sudden frenzy of activity,
tables pulled out, mixing bowls collected, shopping bags emptied.

The Brief:
A two course meal, both requiring
some sort of cooking. The three patrols had decided on the meals the previous
week, and at one point all three of them were making pasta and sauce and two of
them banana splits. But in the end the meals were far more creative and
exotic?? The young leaders, however had to design a meal inside the twenty
minute dash at Sainsbury’s with a budget of only £4, ahhhhhh!!!
The Menu:
The Panda Patrol

Chips, poached egg and ham, followed by an interesting concoction of
crushed biscuit, whipped cream and strawberries.

The Penguins Patrol

French bread, with ham and cheese, it was cooked, honest! And for pudding,
really, really exciting animal shapes biscuits!

The Starfish Patrol

Rather tasty kebabs! Followed by an assortment of sweets and melted
chocolate, I think!?!

The Young Leaders
Yummy?
Well what can I say, 20 minute planning and shopping time, we really pulled
it off well, presentation is everything and wow how amazing does our tacos
look, filled with limp lettuce, economy cheese and cheesy tomato sauce, mmmmm!
And dessert, exquisitely melted ice cream, with melted chocolate sauce and mini
eggs, what more can I say…

…yes, we did eat all the entire ice cream among us.
