| Walking ...........There
are many walks marked in the forest for those who are energetic. Some of
the walks can be used with care by the disabled.
Information on the walks are at most car parks. Walks are designed for either a short walk or for longer walks of several miles. Both types of walks try to show local view points such as the view from Symonds Yat Rock looking down onto the River Wye and the cliffs where the Falcons nest. On other longer walks you can follow the Sculpture Trail showing the old industries of the forest. Also while on these walks you may come across small herds of deer that still roam the forest. If you are lucky you may even see one of the few white deer that are in the forest and Wye valley. Lately Wild Boar have been seen the forest. Cycling
........
The forest has been opened up for cycles on certain tracks, some of these
are the hard surface tracks that the forestry use, others are disused rail Fishing.......
Fishing is allowed in the Cannop and Lightmoor ponds on the Receipt of
a permit from the angling club concerned plus a current fishing licence. Mallards Pike........No fishing is allowed in this pond as it is used by organized groups for canoeing on a booking arrangement.
Horse Ridding
...........
Horses can be ridden in the forest on the hard tracks only, as too much
damage is done to the softer foot paths that are for walkers only. Around
the forest are several stables that cater for the casual rider.
Picnic Sites .......... In the forest there are many sites that have facilities for picnics and B.B.Qs.. These are the only sites where It is permitted to have fires, and they must be in the specially prepared fire places. Where to
Stay ..............There is a large camp site
at Christchurch between Coleford and Symonds Yat that caters for Tents
and Caravans, also various smaller private sites around the forest.
At Parkend there is a CSMA camp site.
