WELCOME....

...to Four Directions UK.  Our mission is to work with Native Americans to protect sacred sites and places.

Since the coming of the first Europeans over 500 years ago, the Native people of the Americas have been fighting to protect their sacred places.  It is a fight that continues into the twenty-first century.

Burial grounds, places where sacred plants grow, landscapes of power, places of emergence, of story and prophecy.  Native Americans are struggling and campaigning to protect their sacred places; some on public lands and others on private property.

The Americas still abound with sacred sites because the original inhabitants of the land are still there, often in the same places they have lived in and travelled through for thousands of years.  Their oral traditions have been maintained and are alive.

The very fact that the traditions are still alive adds to the problems of Native Americans.  White America in general, and the courts in particular, seem unable to recognise the fact that new sacred sites are still coming into being; the Higher Powers did not stop revealing themselves to Native Americans when Christ died.

Protecting these sacred places is important for many reasons, not least for the part they can play in maintaining Native cultures, protecting the environment and in securing the emotional health and well-being of the people that hold them sacred.

Pilgrims and tourists to sacred sites can ultimately destroy sacred sites and can undermine the integrity of local cultures. Many of the world's sacred mountains have been appropriated by outside groups, effectively stolen from the local indigenous communities.

We work with Native American nations and communites to protect sacred places.  We campaign for policies and laws that recognise spiritual values, conserve sacred environments and respect the needs and preferences of local Native people.

GETTING ACTIVE

Our work is about empowerment, encouragement, publicity and support.  Information is power and, using this website, you will be able to find good, reliable sources of information about Native American history, culture and, above all, sacred places and the threats to them..  Armed with that information you can work to fight those threats and to protect the culture, lifeways and sacred places of Native Americans.

YOUR SUPPORT

We have no paid staff and membership is free and open to all.  We need your support, both in spreading the word about our work and in taking part in the various campaigns and projects that we will be putting together over the coming months and years.

So, please tell people about us and join in with our campaigns.  To join us and be kept up to date with developments and news click here and send us a blank email with "Subscribe" in the subject line.
