The National Park Service Tribal Preservation Program was established in 1996 when fourteen Indian tribes were approved by NPS to assume national program responsibilities on tribal lands, pursuant to Section 101(d) of the National Historic Preservation Act. Among the responsibilities assumed by these tribes are conducting historic property surveys, maintaining permanent inventories of historic properties, nominating properties to the National Register of Historic Places, and reviewing Federal agency undertakings pursuant to Section 106 of the Act.  The site includes a link to "Find a Tribal Preservation Office"
