VOLUNTEER

Read Phayul

Check out the Websites of other support groups.  If you can afford it, join other groups - don't worry if you can't as we'll carry news of their events and details of their campaigns here at Four Directions Tibet.

BE THERE

In addition to the above, you an also help by learning more about Tibet.  To do this you need to read, learn and, if possible, visit.

Becoming an expert and speaking out is one of the best ways you can help bring about positive change.  However, it's very important that you obtain the right information, and that you find out as much as you can from the Tibetan perspective; in other words from the people themselves.

The following links are designed to serve as a toolkit to help you achieve this.

READ

BACKGROUND
To get a solid background on the history and the issues surrounding Tibet there are a number of good books available.  These can usually be ordered through local bookstores or via Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com., or try your local library.  There are also a range of articles available on the Web, including several on this site.  You can use the following links to direct you to our list of recommended reading and Websites.

KEEPING UP TO DATE
In the UK, news articles and stories on Tibet are usually few and far between.  This is something we can all work to change, by badgering editors and broadcasters to feature more stories and programmes.  There tend to be more articles in the Canadian and US press and we include details of a number of these in our News Articles section.

From time to time, we'll also be publishing brief articles of our own on this website.

LEARN

As well as learning through reading, knowledge can be increased by listening to talks and lectures, watching documentaries, visiting museums, exhibitions and libraries.  Just like news articles, opportunities are few and far between in the UK.  You can use the following links to help find what is available.

VISIT

Here we are referring to visiting Tibet and Tibetan refugee communities.  One of the best ways to learn what life is like for Tibetans is to visit the places where they live and work.  We know only too well how difficult it is to find good tours and, at least for the first trip, self-packaging isn't really a viable option.

Over the coming months we'll be developing some ideas and articles on where to go and what to see.

We'll be expanding this section of our site considerably over the next few months, so please check back regularly.
