TIBET LINKS

Welcome to our Links page.  There are literally hundreds of sites on the Internet which are devoted to various aspects of Tibet.  The following small selection consists of sites which we recommend as being well worth a look.  In each case they represent groups who are committed to the cause of freedom for the Tibetan people.

The photograph opposite is from a collection of negatives donated by Kathryn Smathers to the Tibetan Photo Project.  These are from her father's 1932 climbing expedition to the Himalaya and provide a rare look at Tibet before the Chinese invasion of 1950.

The Project's Website contains several more images from the expedition and hundreds of contemporary images.

The Tibet Album presents more than 6000 photographs spanning 30 years of Tibet's history. These extraordinary photographs are a unique record of people long gone and places changed beyond all recognition. They also document the ways that British visitors encountered Tibet and Tibetans.

In pictures: Tibetan Nomads on the BBC website has twelve images from contemporary Tibetan Nomad life and shows something of the reality of the Chinese enforced settlement project.  Well worth a look.

The Tibet Oral History Project is invaluable. It provides intimate portraits of the last generation to live in a free, unoccupied Tibet, and preserves for future generations their memories of their homeland.  For example, click here for a full transcription of the interview with Lobsang Tashi, a nomad originally from the Ngari Dhargaling region.
