THE FAMILY HISTORY OF CHRIS & BARBARA EVANS [NEE FRANKLAND] |
|
|
|
On my paternal side I am descended from the Frankland family of Helperby and Brafferton in the North Riding of Yorkshire and the Galliford family of Devon. Until early in 2002 there had been Franklands
living in Helperby since about 1796 when John, who was born in Huby, married Jane Robinson of Helperby. John was a wheelwright, and many of his descendants carried on the family trade as carpenters and
joiners. The Galliford family had been agricultural workers in Devon but moved to Guisborough and became miners. The names appearing include:- AGAR, FRANKLAND, GALLIFORD, JACKSON, KIRK,
PREST, REX, ROBINSON, WHITEHEAD and WILSON..
On my maternal side my ancestors most recently came from Birkenhead, Bebington, Tranmere and Port Sunlight as well as Wrexham and Ireland. The names
appearing include :- ASHLEY, BARCLAY, CARTER, COLLINS, DOYLE, EVANS, NORMAN, RILEY [also spelt REILLY, O'RILEY, O'REILLY], ROSE, RYDER, SHAW and SMITH.
My husband's family were mainly from in and around
Staffordshire and from Macclesfield in Cheshire where they were butchers or worked in the silk industry. That is apart from Charles Evans who was born in Beaumaris in 1781. He married in Macclesfield in
1806 and worked as a tailor. The names appearing include:- ALLEN, BLADIN, BOOTH, BRADLEY, BROCKLEHURST, BROWN, BRUNT, CHALLINOR, EVANS, HADFIELD, HALLOWELL, HARRISON-HALLIWELL, HOOLEY, HULME, MANWAY,
MILWARD, MOORS, MOTTERSHEAD, OAKES, PERCIVAL, STUBBS, TRAFFORD, WESTON and WOOLEY.
