Story Source:
Author: David Ramshaw, P3 Publications Book Title: unknown Blea tarn above Haweswater has a Roman road that
was used by the Border Reivers for their raids into this area. Around 1850, this was used by the locals to race
horses on local feasts and holidays. During one event some of the locals amused
themselves with a little fox hunting. This ended in one man called Dixon, falling some
1000 feet from the top of Blea tarn. He hit many rocks on the way down and
suffered terrible bruising as well as being scalped, but no broken bones and
survived to tell the story. Alt navigation:- |
