General Description
Strictly speaking the following 3 sites fall outside Cumbria's County boundary, but by only a few miles. This group of reservoirs come within the Northumberland County Boundary.

Selset Reservoir:
Selset is the first of two interlinked reservoirs that can be found east of Penrith, along the B6276. You could scramble down the rocks to enter but take a look at the surrounding countryside and any seasoned diver will know there will be nothing of interest but wet soil at the bottom of this one. Could be a freshwater sponge or two? The other more sports active Reservoir, is Grassholme Reservoir. The river leading out of Grassholme, is the River Tees. More about Grassholme further on.

Cow Green Reservoir
Cow Green Reservoir is the largest and has easy access in and out.
Once again however, it was the same story and although you need to request permission to dive Cow Green, it just failed to appeal to us.

Other Interests
Lots of wildlife in the form of Rabbits, but also wild boar and tigers roam free - or they would / could if they lived here amongst the rabbits and fell walkers!

Places to Stay
Brough and Middleton-in-Teesdale, along with Appleby, have both guest houses and hotels.
For more details use one of the links here. Hotels and Guest Houses Youth Hostels for Families etc.

How to get here
Those coming from North of Penrith travel along the M6, come off at Penrith's J40, and pick up the A66 - Brough road. As you approach Brough village you'll spot the B6276 sign (Middleton-in-Teesdale) and follow this through.
Those arriving from the South along the M6, come off at Tebay J38, and pick up the A685 - Brough road. You'll enter Brough village and then watch for the B6276 sign (Middleton-in-Teesdale) which will take you to these reservoirs.
Those arriving from the East side of the country, I'm thinking Newcastle area, come over to Bernard Castle A688 then pick up the B6276.
Those in Yorkshire and below, it's M1 / A1 to Scotch Corner and then A66 making for Bernard Castle, Just past Greta Bridge watch for the B6277 leading you to Micklton and then picking up the A6276 Brough sign.
