| A Sad Loss
We are sad to report that our oldest and one of our longest-standing members, Shane Reese, died on 23rd June 2010 at the age of 86. Shane, who was also a keen member of Runcorn Chess Club, joined Frodsham in 1994. Ever since he was one of our strongest players and, until ill health prevented it, a regular member of our first team. He was Club Champion in 1997, 2000, 2005 and 2006, Player of The Year in 1997 and 2003, and our Chairman from 2002 to 2006. His enthusiasm for Chess was undiminished and he was looking forward to playing for us again next season. Shane, who was a devout Roman Catholic, lead an interesting and varied life. He was born in Uganda, educated in Ireland by the Jesuits, worked as a policeman in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), took a Law degree and, back in the UK, was Runcorn Town Clerk and subsequently a Civil Servant specialising in Planning. He leaves behind his wife, eight sons and a daughter. We will miss him for his warmth, wit, generosity and good humour. |
