Barrow concluded the 1933/34 Division 3N season with a home game against Gateshead. Few in the crowd that afternoon could of been expecting the goal feast that they were about to witness.
The opening goal for Barrow came in the 9th minute from Jackie Foster and by the twenty fifth minute Barrow led a hapless Gateshead by 5 goals to nil. By the time of the final whistle the Gateshead goalkeeper Clarke had picked the ball out of his net on a further seven occasions. The solitary Gateshead goal had come from the penalty spot.
The Barrow scorers on this monumental day were Jimmy Shankly 5, Matthew Robinson 4, Jackie Foster 2, and the Argentinian born Frank Peed.
Barrow finished the season in 8th place in Division 3N scoring an impressive 116 goals in the process, only two less than champions Barnsley and Barrow forward Jimmy Shankly scored an amazing 38 league goals in 42 appearances and Matthew Robinson finding the net on 25 occasions.
