Blackburn Rovers 4-1 Barrow

League Cup 3rd Round

After a 2-1 home victory over Oldham Athletic in the first round of the league cup Barrow travelled to Ewood Park to take on Blackburn Rovers in the second round.
The match should of been postponed long before the 90 minutes were up as heavy rain throughout the game left the pitch a quagmire with standing water over much of the pitch.

Barrow had two early chances when Mulholland got in a good header and McAdams tested the keeper but it was Rovers who adapted better to the conditions than Barrow and took the lead through Rogers on 19 minutes.
On 28 minutes Blackburn increased their lead when a free-kick from the edge of the box took a deflection off Barrow’s Edwards and flew into the back of the net.
Barrow pulled a goal back on 36 minutes when a right wing cross was turned into his own net by Blackburn’s Mulvaney.
Only five minutes into the second half Blackburn scored their third when Wilson squared the ball for McEvoy to fire past the Barrow goalkeeper Fred Else.
On 54 minutes Else making a return to his former club made a shocking blunder and gifted
his former colleagues a fourth goal when he rushed out to clear a through ball but instead of booting the ball up field he tried to dribble it out only to lose it in a puddle. Rovers Rogers took his chance but Barrow’s Harrison fisted the ball off the goal line to give Blackburn a penalty. Blackburn's Brian Douglas took the penalty, but instead of shooting at goal he played the ball to his right where Ferguson was coming through and fired the ball into the back of the Barrow net.
In the latter stages Barrow had a fair amount of possession and Aston was only inches away from adding a second for Barrow but the final score of Blackburn Rovers 4-1 Barrow was a fair reflection of Rovers dominance of the game.
