Barrow 1-1 AFC Bournemouth
November 10th 2007
FA Cup 1st Round
Attendance 2253

For the second season running Barrow made it through to the First Round Proper of the FA Cup, being drawn at home to League one, AFC Bournemouth. Barrow were having a poor season  being only one place  above the relegation zone in Blue Square North.

Bournemouth kicked off with a strong wind at their backs but it was Barrow who created the first opening  when Matt Henney received the ball on the right wing after neat passes between Andy Bond & Darren Sheridan, he cut inside before letting fly with a shot which the Bournemouth keeper did well to block.

Barrow deservedly took the lead on 19 minutes when left sided midfielder Paul Brown flashed a low cross into the Bournemouth box which eventually broke to Barrow forward Kevin Rapley who hit delightful left foot shot into the far corner of the net sending the Barrow supporters wild.

Barrow almost added a second minutes later when Rogan sent in a left wing cross which flashed across the face of the goal.

Bournemouth should have equalised when Turkish midfielder Jem Karacan shot wide with just the Barrow keeper to beat. The same player made amends in first half stoppage time when he curled a weak shot just inside the Barrow post to claim the equaliser.

The second half kicked off with the strong wind now in Barrow’s favour and Paul Brown should of done better when he shot high over the bar when well placed in the early stages.
Bournemouth’s Josh Gowling was lucky with only a booking and conceding a free kick on the edge of the box when he brought down Matt Henney who was racing in on goal.  The free-kick from a promising position was wasted, much to the annoyance of the Barrow fans.

Barrow were only inches away from claiming an injury time winner when a Bond inswinging free-kick was glanced goalwards by Matt Henney, but it agonisingly drifted inches wide as the Barrow fans were about to celebrate  a last minute winner.

Just two days after the draw with Bournemouth, the Barrow board of directors sacked manager Phil Wilson for the clubs poor showing in Blue Square North as the club dropped into the relegation zone while being on FA Cup duty.
