The Lake District, with plenty of breathtaking scenery, is located to the north of Barrow-in-Furness, so if you are going to travel half the country to get here, why not make a weekend of it?
Barrow-in-Furness is located at the southern tip of the Furness peninsular, 32 miles from junction 36 of the M6, and is bordered by the Irish Sea, Morecambe Bay, Duddon Estuary and the Lake District National Park.
The Lake District’s main tourist centre of Bowness-on-Windermere which is located on the shore of Lake Windermere (England's largest Lake), is only a 30 minute drive from Barrow. Keswick, the main tourist centre in the Northern Lakes, is still only and hours drive away.
Other popular tourist destinations; Ambleside, Grasmere and Coniston, are also less than an hours drive away.
From the above links you can view the history of Barrow, see a selection of hotels from Furness and the South Lakes and some of the main tourist attractions.
